Shloka Translation
BG – Ch. 5- Ver. 20:

They do not exult in receiving something nice or sorrow in suffering something bad because they are established in God, have a firm awareness of divine knowledge, and are not limited by delusion.

Explanation

The highest goal, which is naturally attained in devotion to God, when we yield our will to the divine, is neither rejoicing in pleasure nor regretting the unpleasant. The insight that it is in our self-interest to give God pleasure comes from divine wisdom. This leads to surrender to God’s will, and when one’s own will is fused with God’s, one learns the serenity to accept both pleasure and pain as His grace. This is a symptom of someone who is in a state of transcendence.

The realised seeker is confronted with both pleasant and terrible circumstances. He can’t get away from them. The realised seeker, on the other hand, is not destabilized by these conditions. In other words, they don’t make you happy or sad. It’s crucial to remember that all situations, good and bad, have a role in our life. Unpleasant experiences are valuable in the context of the relative world because they usually contain a lesson. However, there will be a space between the emotion and the self in a realised seeker.
