TRAI Encourages Consumers to Use MySpeed App to Measure Real Internet Performance
New Delhi, July 17, 2026: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has urged consumers to use the TRAI MySpeed App to accurately measure the quality of their internet connections, helping users understand real network performance while contributing to improvements in digital connectivity across the country.
As India continues to build one of the world’s largest mobile-first digital ecosystems, consumers increasingly rely on high-speed internet for work, entertainment, education and digital payments. However, TRAI pointed out that full 4G or 5G signal bars do not always guarantee a seamless online experience.
Issues such as frozen video calls, buffering during video streaming, slow webpage loading, or delayed digital transactions may stem from several factors, including network conditions, device performance, Wi-Fi quality or other external variables. The TRAI MySpeed App is designed to help users identify actual internet performance through objective measurements.
The app enables users to assess key performance indicators such as download speed, upload speed, latency, and video and browser performance, providing a more comprehensive view of internet quality than signal strength alone.
Consumers can choose from multiple testing options, including Speed Test, Video and Browser Test, and Advanced Test, allowing them to compare the performance of mobile data, broadband and Wi-Fi connections across different locations and times of the day.
Improving Networks Through Consumer Participation
TRAI said every test performed through the MySpeed App contributes to improving India’s telecom infrastructure.
With users’ consent, anonymised network performance data collected through the app is shared with telecom service providers (TSPs). The information helps operators identify areas requiring network optimisation, strengthen coverage, improve capacity and enhance overall service quality.
According to TRAI, this collaborative approach enables consumers to not only evaluate their own internet experience but also contribute valuable insights that support continuous improvements in network performance for millions of users.
How to Use the TRAI MySpeed App
Consumers can start using the app by following these simple steps:
-
Download the TRAI MySpeed App from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
-
Open the app and grant the required permissions.
-
Select the preferred test—Speed Test, Video and Browser Test, or Advanced Test.
-
Ensure the mobile data, broadband or Wi-Fi connection is active.
-
Tap “Start Test” and wait for the assessment to complete.
-
Review the results to understand the quality of the internet connection.
TRAI said that as India’s digital economy continues to expand, greater consumer participation in measuring network performance will help create stronger, faster and more reliable telecommunications infrastructure across the country.
The regulator also reminded users that the next time an online service slows down despite showing full network bars, measuring internet performance through the TRAI MySpeed App can provide a clearer picture of the actual quality of the connection while contributing to nationwide network improvements.
