National Design Centre to Host ‘Handloom Expo for Languishing Weaves

New Delhi:  National Design Centre (NDC), with the support of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, is all set to organize a “Handloom Expo for Languishing Weaves” at Handloom Haat, Janpath, New Delhi, from April 26 to May 4, 2025.

The nine-day expo is dedicated exclusively to traditional Indian handloom products that are facing a decline, offering a crucial platform for weavers, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), co-operative societies, and handloom producers to engage directly with national and international buyers.

The initiative aims to enhance both sales and visibility of India’s exquisite handloom legacy, ranging from cotton and silk sarees to shawls, tweeds, fabrics, dress materials, and stoles. By bringing artisans and customers together in a shared space, the event promises to serve as a one-stop sourcing destination for exporters, wholesalers, retailers, and handloom enthusiasts alike.

This expo is more than just a marketplace. It’s a cultural commitment to preserve the heritage of Indian handlooms that are vanishing due to lack of exposure and commercial viability. Apart from offering a valuable platform for showcasing and selling authentic handmade products, the expo will also foster meaningful interactions between weavers and industry stakeholders, building lasting networks for sustained livelihood.

The Handloom Haat in Janpath is expected to come alive with vibrant displays of regional craftsmanship, inviting Delhiites and tourists to experience the richness of Indian textile traditions. Entry to the expo is free and visitors can visit from 11AM to 8PM.
