From 15 Daily Seizures to Recovery: Asian Hospital Successfully Treats Kyrgyzstan Girl

A 12-year-old girl from Kyrgyzstan, who had been suffering from frequent epileptic seizures for the past 7–8 years, recently received successful treatment in India at Asian Institute of Medical Sciences. The child had been experiencing nearly 10–15 epileptic attacks every day, severely affecting her quality of life. Most of the seizures occurred during the night, forcing family members to remain awake to monitor and care for her.

After arriving in India, she consulted Dr. Mukesh Pandey, who conducted a comprehensive evaluation of her condition. According to Dr. Pandey, the child was suffering from a complex neurological disorder affecting both sides of her brain. PET-CT and MRI scans revealed dysfunction in both hemispheres, which were acting as seizure-generating zones.

Despite being on multiple anti-epileptic medications, her condition showed no significant improvement. The severity of her illness had confined her to home, disrupting her education, social interactions, playfulness, and ability to make friends.

A specialized treatment plan was then carefully designed and executed by the medical team. The child underwent Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) therapy, a procedure in which a stimulation device is connected to the vagus nerve — an important nerve involved in regulating functions of the heart and intestines. A battery-operated device was implanted under the skin of her chest to deliver controlled electrical impulses to the nerve.

Within a week of the procedure, her seizures reduced by nearly 90%. By the time the final battery settings were completed, the child had shown remarkable improvement and was doing extremely well.

Her successful recovery has brought immense relief and happiness to her family and highlights the advanced neurological care and treatment facilities available at Asian Hospital. For More details call Isha Verma, PR and Communications Asian Hospital
