Shloka Translation
BG – Ch. 3- Ver. 34:
The senses have innate attachments and aversions to sense objects, yet they are not controlled by them because they are both way-layers and adversaries.
Explanation
Attraction and repulsion are the two emotions that link sense organs to sense objects. Your enemies are your likes and dislikes. Do not get taken in by them. In karma yoga, our natural tendencies, which show as likes and dislikes for material objects, are the major hindrance. Our senses: the eyes, ears, skin, tongue, and nose, all play a role in these tendencies.
By being aware of our likes and dislikes, especially when they strike, using our intellect to guide us, and constantly reminding ourselves of the higher ideal we have set for ourselves in karma yoga, we can avoid falling prey to them. We can lessen the impact of likes and dislikes by being continually aware that they may occur.
We will come across a variety of pleasant and dislikeable scenarios while performing our worldly duties. We must practice neither yearning for pleasant situations nor avoiding unpleasant ones. We shall transcend our lower nature when we quit being slaves to the mind’s and senses’ likes and dislikes. And we will be genuinely free to act from our higher nature when we grow indifferent to both pleasure and suffering in the performance of our duty.
