Shloka Translation
BG – Ch. 5- Ver. 8 and 9:
Even while seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, moving, sleeping, breathing, speaking, excreting, grasping, and opening or closing the eyes, those committed to karma yoga think, “I am not the doer.” They observe that only the material senses are moving among their objects in the light of divine knowledge.
Explanation
Shri Krishna teaches that a person who has discovered the everlasting essence understands, and even says, that he is not doing anything, and that all of these acts are carried out naturally by the body, mind, and intellect. According to Shri Krishna, even the process of thought is automatic. Our mind is driven to develop selfish thoughts unless the ego is subjugated. Selfish ideas gradually transform into selfless ones as the ego is subjugated via karma yoga.
However, for someone who has grasped the everlasting nature, the self, or “I,” is only a witness to all of these deeds. Until then, the “I” believes it is the one who is doing the doing. Only those who have had the vision of the eternal essence genuinely understand that they are not the doer.
They attribute all of their works to God’s power since the body is built from God’s material energy. They rely on God to inspire their mind and intellect in accordance with His divine will since they have surrendered to His will. As a result, they continue to believe that God is the one who does everything.
Verse & what we can learn
