Shloka Translation
BG – Ch. 18- Ver. 39:
Happiness that encompasses the entirety of one’s self and derives from slumber, laziness, and negligence is said to be in the mode of ignorance.
Explanation
While knowing that doing so will eventually result in social, bodily, and mental disaster, people nonetheless find joy, contentment, and a sense of pleasure in these activities. The name for this type of delight is taamasic sukha. Such persons, according to Shri Krishna, are in moha. They are led to believe that the lethargy brought on by abusing excessive sleep, indolence, and intoxication is bliss.
Verse & what we can learn
While there is a certain amount of delight that must be acknowledged, it is unwelcome and harmful. Worse then, the action’s inception, middle, and finale are all marked by this strange kind of ecstasy. A lethargic individual will spend the entire day and go to sleep in the same comfortable position, remaining numb.
There is no known treatment for taamasic delight other than maintaining a high degree of awareness toward what we consume in terms of food, drink, entertainment, and thoughts.
To acquire knowledge and to implement that knowledge in life one needs to be mentally and physically active and healthy and for that daily meditation is a great tool.
