 Shloka Translation

BG 1. 4: Duryodhana said: There are many brave bowmen in this army who can battle just as well as Bhima and Arjuna; there are also outstanding fighters like Yuyudhana, Virata, and Drupada.

Explanation

There were many other people who were the source of worry, even though Dhrushtadyumna wasn’t a very serious obstacle in the face of Dronacharya’s extremely large power in the military art. Because each and every one of them was as powerful as Bhima and Arjuna, Duryodhana refers to them as major obstacles in the way of victory. He compared the others to Bhima and Arjuna since he was aware of their superior power.

Reflection

Duryodhana kept calling out the great warriors on the other side in an effort to stir Drona to battle aggressively against the opposing army. Since each of these warriors had a prior relationship with Drona, he deliberately selected each name to evoke a response from him.

Arjuna’s best student, Yuyudhaana, was fighting for his master, but Drona’s best student, Arjuna, was opposing his teacher, and Duryodhana wanted to make that distinction clear. As was already said, Drona also had a hate for Drupada.

In the coming verses, we will see how Duryodhana continues to talk disrespectfully towards his Guru and tries to provoke him to show his best skills in war.
