“त्वां विना अहं स्वर्गमपि न इच्छामि”
conveys the message,
‘Without you, I don’t even desire heaven.’

The significance of the epic love story of SiyaRam is highlighted in this context. The ideal relationship to aspire for in today’s world resembles that of Lord Ram and Maa Sita. A line from Valmiki Ramayana.

How fortunate is one’s soul to discover a companion who remains loyal and steadfast, never willing to sacrifice their integrity or the well-being of others. While some may argue that humans have evolved from animals, this claim is simply not accurate. Numerous animals and birds exhibit monogamous behaviour, forming lifelong partnerships. In contrast, there are individuals among the human species who may be deemed less advanced in terms of intellect, emotions, and interpersonal relationships.

The perception of marriage as a sacred institution is subjective and changes depending on cultural, religious, and personal convictions. To numerous individuals, marriage carries a revered status, representing a lifelong commitment, partnership, and connection between two people. It is regarded as a bond that grows stronger through love, trust, respect, and common values, aiming to establish a secure and nurturing family structure.

In contemporary marriages, how genuine is the commitment? After dedicating herself to being an exemplary daughter-in-law, a loving and loyal wife, and a nurturing mother for years, her world crumbles when she uncovers the painful reality of her husband leaving her for his former flame. This narrative isn’t just a figment of imagination but a stark revelation that unfolds in several modern households.

Extramarital affairs extend beyond individuals exhibiting narcissistic traits; they are common among those prioritizing physical gratification over love and family connections. Breaking up a family and abandoning one’s spouse and children is increasingly accepted. Certain individuals justify their actions by seeking personal fulfillment and attempting to absolve themselves through rationalization and compensation.

It is sadly common to hear stories of a mother leaving her 15-year marriage and family for a lover, accompanied by false accusations of rape against her husband. This scenario, though not unique, remains deeply impactful. The person she left her family for has also harmed his own family, leading to devastation for both households. Consider the repercussions for the children involved—their sense of security shattered, potentially facing societal rejection that may drive them to become withdrawn. Meanwhile, the betrayed partner grapples with a profound loss of trust in humanity, leading to a bleak perspective on life.

In essence, the legacy of SiyaRam’s enduring love serves as a guiding light of optimism and motivation amidst the tumultuous landscape of modern relationships. While the sacredness of marriage may vary across cultures and individuals, the values of loyalty, integrity, and mutual respect remain timeless and paramount. As we navigate the complexities of commitment in today’s world, it is crucial to cherish and uphold these foundational principles, fostering relationships built on genuine devotion and unwavering support. By learning from both the timeless wisdom of ancient tales and the harsh realities of contemporary challenges, we can strive to create enduring bonds that withstand the tests of time and adversity, enriching our lives and those of future generations.
