Mind Anchored In Brahman Leads To Detachmenet From The World

ब्रह्मण्याधाय कर्माणि सङ्गं त्यक्त्वा करोति य: |
लिप्यते न स पापेन पद्मपत्रमिवाम्भसा || 5.10||

brahmaṇyādhāya karmāṇi saṅgaṁ tyaktvā karoti yaḥ
lipyate na sa pāpena padma-patram ivāmbhasā|| 5.10||

Shloka Translation
BG – Ch. 5- Ver. 10:

He who performs deeds does not become contaminated by sins after offering all actions to the eternal essence and laying off attachments, just as water does not taint a lotus leaf.

Explanation

The lotus flower emerges from the mud at the lake’s bottom, rising above the water and blossoming toward the sun. As a result, the lotus flower is an illustration of anything that rises above the mud while maintaining its lovely purity.
Despite the fact that water is responsible for the lotus’s birth, growth, and nutrition, the leaf refuses to be wet. Shree Krishna uses the lovely analogy of the lotus leaf to explain that, just as the lotus leaf floats atop the surface of the lake but does not allow itself to be wetted by the water, the karma yogis stay sin-free despite completing a variety of tasks because they do so in divine consciousness.

A karma yogi works for a higher ideal like Ishvara, whereas someone who does not practise karma yoga works for the ego. Attachment can take place on four different levels: attachment to the outcome of an activity, attachment to the action itself, attachment to the sensation of doership, and attachment to the experience of non-doership. The first three are the most straightforward. The fourth one appears when the concept of akarma, or inaction, from the fourth chapter is not fully grasped.

As a result, through offering results, deeds, doership, and non-doership to Ishvara, the karma yogi attempts to transcend all four levels of attachment. He does not amass any more cravings in the material world when he acts with such a perspective, just as a lotus leaf does.

Verse & what we can learn

When one’s attention is totally focused inwards towards atman one becomes immune to the changes of the world. Therefore he acts like a lotus leaf in water.

To acquire knowledge and to implement that knowledge in life one needs to be mentally and physically active and healthy and for that daily meditation is a great tool.

There are also numerous meditation techniques for beginners which help in practicing daily meditation so go ahead and start your journey towards a peaceful and balanced life.
