Shloka Translation
BG – Ch. 5- Ver. 13:

The conqueror is content because he has consciously renounced all actions. In the city of nine gates, the embodied one neither acts nor causes to act.

Explanation

Shree Krishna compares the human body to a city with nine gates. The ego, intellect, mind, senses, and life-energy minister to the soul, as if it were the king of the city, whose administration is carried out by the ego, intellect, mind, senses, and life-energy. The dominion over the body continues until the corporeal frame is snatched away by time in the form of death.

Even though the rule continues, enlightened yogis do not perceive themselves as the body, nor do they regard themselves as the body’s king. Rather, they regard the body and all of its activity as belonging to God. Such enlightened beings stay happily located in their bodies, renouncing all acts through the mind.

Two ears, one mouth, two nostrils, two eyes, anus, and genitals make up the body’s nine gates. The soul residing in the body identifies with this city of nine gates in material consciousness. The Supreme Lord, who is in charge of all living beings on the planet, is also housed within this body. Even when staying in the body, the soul maintains a connection with the Lord and becomes free like Him.

Verse & what we can learn

The enlightened individual understands that the self is merely a guest in the body, completely apart from it. He has total control over his senses and has mentally abandoned the concept of doership. He understands that action is carried out by the body, mind, and intellect. The seeker is in perfect joy because he understands that he is different and distinct from the actions of the body, mind, and intellect.

To acquire knowledge and to implement that knowledge in life one needs to be mentally and physically active and healthy and for that daily meditation is a great tool.

There are various types of meditation like Buddhist meditation, heartfulness meditation, mindfulness meditation, meditation for stress, and each meditation benefits are countless. There are also numerous meditation techniques for beginners which help in practicing daily meditation so go ahead and start your journey towards a peaceful and balanced life.

In the Next verse, Shri Krishna tells Arjuna Tells about Goad and material nature.
