Shloka Translation
BG – Ch. 1- Ver. 43: Janardhana, I salute you (Krishna), According to what I’ve learnt, those who violate family traditions and social values will spend an eternity in hell.
Explanation
Arjuna’s reasoning is based on what he has heard from the elders rather than on his own personal experience. That is how true knowledge is acquired. Without assistance from the appropriate individual who is well-versed in that knowledge, one cannot arrive to the true point of factual knowledge.
In the varnasrama institution, there is a method whereby one must go through the ablution procedure before passing away for his immoral deeds. One who is always involved in sinful behaviour is required to use the prayaschitta method of cleansing. Without doing so, one will undoubtedly be banished to dreadful worlds where they will live horrible lives as a result of their evil deeds.
Reflection
Here, Arjuna brought to a close a discussion he had started a few verses earlier. He claimed that an increase in lawlessness set off a series of events that led to the destruction of civilization as a whole, not just the populists, who would spend eternity in hell.
To acquire knowledge and to implement that knowledge in life one needs to be mentally and physically active and healthy and for that daily meditation is a great tool.
There are various types of meditation like Buddhist meditation, heartfulness meditation, mindfulness meditation, meditation for stress, and each meditation benefits are countless. There is also numerous meditation techniques for beginners which help in practicing daily meditation so go ahead and start your journey towards a peaceful and balanced life.
In the next verses, we will see Arjuna giving more statements as to how their decision of war with Kauravas is wrong.
