Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited Implements Monthly Billing Cycle for Enhanced Consumer Convenience

Chandigarh, Mar 25: Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) has announced the successful transition from a bi-monthly to a monthly billing cycle in compliance with the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) guidelines. This initiative aims to ensure greater transparency, predictability, and convenience for all electricity consumers in Chandigarh.

Under the new system, bills with a March 30th due date reflect electricity consumption for February 2026, while January 2026 consumption was billed in February 2026. CPDL has taken extensive measures to ensure a smooth transition and provide consumers sufficient time for payments.

Key Initiatives by CPDL:

  • Standardized Monthly Billing: Billing cycles have been aligned to a clear monthly format, with each bill indicating the billing period, issue date, and due date, avoiding any overlaps.
  • System Upgrades & Consumer Support: CPDL undertook KYC drives, enhanced meter reading and bill distribution resources, strengthened backend billing infrastructure, and launched a digital bill payment module.
  • Proactive Digital Communication: Consumers can access bills via WhatsApp by following simple steps:
    1. Save CPDL WhatsApp number 9240216666
    2. Send “Hi” to access the Main Menu
    3. Choose “Services” → “Duplicate Bill”
    4. Enter old Account (14-digit) or CA number (10-digit) to receive the latest bill instantly
  • Enhanced Meter Reading Accuracy: Photo-based OCR readings of meters help reduce errors and enable verification and improvement of readings.
  • Strengthened Grievance Redressal: Complaints related to incorrect readings or billing can be addressed promptly at CPDL call centers or local offices, supported by upgraded backend systems. Since migration to monthly billing in January 2026, consumer complaints have consistently reduced, indicating system stabilization.
