Pain Killers or Life Killers
We have a headache or body pain, we run to the nearest medical shop and buy over the counter medicines. We don’t bother to go to a doctor and ask for advice instead, we take medicines on our own. Time and again, we hear in the news that pain killers harm the body, than, relieving pain.
There are many painkillers that are banned due to its harmful side effects and we barely know about them. There are also people, who cannot afford going to a doctor and take advice every time they fall sick, so they take medicines directly from the pharmacist without knowing its pros and cons.
Even educated people, in spite, are aware of the fact, that it is always better to consult a doctor for any physical illness, but still they don’t do so. In such a case result, their body starts exhibiting side effects and the person becomes more and more ill and suffers chronic disease. Every year, a number of people are hospitalized because of the side effects of using common pain killers.
There are lots of facts that we need to know about these pain killers, below listed are some important ones.
- Whenever we are using pain killers or any other kind of medication, it is necessary and a must that we drink plenty of water.
- Until the doctor advices to do so, we shouldn’t take medicines or pain killers on empty stomach, as it may have its ill effects on stomach.
- If pain continues to exist in any part of the organ for a longer duration, don’t take pain killers continuously for more days; instead consult a doctor to know the root cause.
- It is always best to let the doctor know about the other medicines you are using (if any) like for BP or any other ailments before he prescribes you a pain killer. Because there are some combinations of drugs that may result to serious conditions. So it is always safe that you let your doctor know about, what all you have used or are using.
- People suffering from heart problems, stomach ulcers and BP should not use pain killers on their own. They should consult a doctor before doing so.
- Some people unknowingly take more than one painkiller at a time. Every medicines takes it own time to show its effect on the body, so we have to wait until it starts acting on the body. If you take more than one pain killer at a time, it will have serious effects on the body and in some cases result in death. So, never take more than one painkiller at a time.
- Some pain killers make you feel drowsy or sleepy when you take them, so it is our responsibility to ask the doctor about any side effects that the pain killer may have on the body once you consume it.
- While giving pain killers to the children, you should always consult the doctor. The dose and the age written on the medicine are not same for everyone. According to the child’s existing health condition it may vary. So after consulting a doctor only you should use the medicines on the children.
- Alcohol should not be consumed, in case we are on any kind of medication, especially while using pain killers.
- Regular usage of pain killers, in some cases, also leads to addiction of the same, so you should not at any cost use pain killers and that too for longer periods. For your own good, it is always best to use any kind of pain killer on prescription, by a doctor.
