Sigmund Freud, one of the forefathers of psychological studies, described a person’s nature and personality through motives and beliefs that lie in the unconscious. To bring out these aspects in a person, he was known for conducting experiments that involved looking into the hidden mind of a person, and for this, he used many methods. His theories were found accurate to some extent and psychologists have tried to expand the range of information that can be obtained from a person by examining the seemingly unimportant parts of their character. One such character is a person’s preference for a watch.
The watch is an ingenious invention, for it changed the perception of the world itself, by allowing man to know the amount of time he used and the amount of time he had left in a day. It has become an integral part of fashion and is commonly worn everywhere. A new theory describes that the style and shape of a watch indicate a hidden layer of personality. Some of these descriptions shall be discussed in this article.
The most basic aspect of the watch is the shape. It is seen that people who wear rectangular watches are always in motion and want a life of speed. People who prefer oval shapes tend to show feminine characteristics and traits. The hexagon shape indicates a person’s love for their family and the people around them and finally, people who wear an octagonal shape are shown to have good talent in every domain or a jack of all trades.
Silver and gold watches are said to symbolize success and wealth whereas other colors may not be as fortuitous. From studies, some colors of watches are preferred by certain zodiac signs. For example, people under the Aries zodiac are seen to prefer watches of yellow, orange, and red colors whereas those of the Cancer zodiac are seen to prefer purple, blue, and pink colors. It is likened to a symbol of wishing misfortune upon someone by gifting them a watch.
Wristwatch analysis provides deep knowledge of time management and the decision-making process. It helps in our course of living a conscious & productive life. We shall now look at how the hand that the watch is adorned on can affect the life of a person.
The hand you choose to wear your wristwatch on can be quite significant. Our dominant hand, which is linked to the brain, often dictates our daily activities like eating or shaking hands. While cultural norms may suggest that the right hand is more focused on such tasks, there’s no strict rule about which hand we’ll feel most comfortable using for our activities. Left-handed individuals typically favor their left side, while right-handed people favor their right side. Research suggests that the left side of the brain is associated with emotions, while the right side is linked to technical abilities.
The left side of the brain, responsible for creativity and emotions, is connected to feminine energy. People with a stronger left side often find it easier to connect with women in their lives, as their thoughts are intertwined with their emotions and empathetic responses. Conversely, the right side of the brain, associated with logic and action, exudes masculine energy. Those who lean towards their right side are more comfortable with men and tend to be action-oriented in their daily tasks, focusing on present actions to propel them toward future goals.
Some individuals may feel comfortable wearing their watch on either hand and may switch as needed. These individuals are often perceived as adaptable but may also experience internal conflicts between masculine and feminine energies. Many people opt to wear their watches on their left wrists, especially if they’re right-handed and predominantly use their right hand for work. This practice helps minimize wear and tear on the watch, keeping it safe and intact.
While there are no strict rules, choosing which hand to wear your watch on can subtly influence your personality. Square dials are favored by perfectionists who strive for self-improvement. While they hold themselves to high standards, they’re more lenient with others. This mindset can sometimes lead to rigidity and a lack of emotional expression, characteristic of the “Square Dial” personality.
There are two types of rectangular dials: vertical and horizontal. “Rectangular Dial” wearers embrace unique traits based on the orientation of their watch faces. A watch is made by man but it is also seen that the watch makes the man as well. To achieve true harmony with this symbiotic relationship, one must understand their needs and goals and start wearing their watches accordingly to achieve the utmost success in life.
