Remembering Swami Chinmayananda Saraswati on His Birth Anniversary

8th May 2024: On May 8th, we commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Chinmayananda Saraswati, a revered spiritual thinker and authority on the Vedanta system of Indian philosophy. Born as Balakrishnan Menon into an aristocratic family in Kerala, India, on May 8, 1916, and died August 3, 1993, in San Diego, California, U.S., Swami Chinmayananda’s journey unfolded as one of profound spiritual exploration and dissemination of ancient Hindu scriptures.
His early years were marked by academic achievements, obtaining degrees in law and English literature from Lucknow University. However, it was his deep-rooted spiritual quest that eventually led him to immerse himself in the Indian independence movement in 1942. Despite facing adversity and spending several months in prison for his activism, Swami Chinmayananda’s resolve remained unwavering, fueling his commitment to both spiritual and social causes.
Throughout his life, Swami Chinmayananda dedicated himself to the dissemination of Hindu philosophy, particularly through the teachings of the Bhagwad Gita and the Upanishads.
