The day Lord Shri Krishna told Arjuna the Gita on the battlefield of Kurukshetra before the Mahabharata war began is known as Gita Jayanti. The Shrimad Bhagavad Gita is a Hindu scripture with 700 verses that dates from the second millennium BCE.

Gita Jayanti is observed by devotees on the eleventh day (Ekadashi Tithi), Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the Moon) during Margashirsha month according to the Hindu calendar. The day also happens to be the birth anniversary of the Bhagavad Gita, Hindu’s holy book.

The passages in the Gita are dialogues on the battlefield of Kurukshetra between Shri Krishna (Lord Vishnu’s ninth avatar) and Pandava Prince Arjuna. As a result, the day is set aside to commemorate Gita Jayanti. This year, the Gita’s 5158th anniversary will be commemorated.

As previously noted, Gita Jayanti commemorates the birth of Hinduism’s sacred text. The Holy Scripture is a collection of Arjun’s and Shri Krishna’s dialogues on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. The Gita, which has 700 shlokas, is part of the Bhishma Parva of the Mahabharata, India’s ancient epic. Devotees will commemorate the Gita’s 5158th anniversary this year.

The Gita discusses life’s basic principles, truths, and responsibilities. Arjuna’s inquiries are accompanied by Shri Krishna’s responses in the ancient scripture.

Because his opponents (his cousins and loved ones) were people he grew up with, Arjuna, the courageous Pandava warrior, originally lacked the bravery to face them on the battlefield. He had to take an active role in the war to restore Dharma (fundamental principles of divine law) and put an end to their wrong doings. And, eventually, after learning what his Karma (obligation) is, he was able to master his emotions. Arjuna was able to condition his mind and evolve as a result.
