On Wednesday, April 30, at 4 PM, on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya, a grand interfaith community wedding ceremony will be organized by the Malpani Industrial Group at Malpani Lawns in Sangamner. In this special event, several couples will begin their marital journey amidst the presence of thousands.
The registration process for couples wishing to participate in this ceremony has already begun and is receiving an enthusiastic response. Initiated by the Malpani family, this public welfare initiative has reached its silver jubilee, thanks to the overwhelming public support. This ceremony, which is considered a blessing for all communities, has a proud 28-year tradition. Over 1,600 families have been united through this event so far. Inspired by a sense of social responsibility, the group has been conducting this initiative year after year. These marriages, solemnized for just ₹1, have earned widespread admiration across the state. Hindu, Muslim, Christian, and Buddhist brides and grooms are married according to their respective religious customs. Thus, these couples begin their new life together in the presence of a large, diverse gathering.
The idea was conceived in 1997 by the late Omkarnathji and the late Madhavlalji Malpani. Recognizing the financial burden on brides’ families due to lavish wedding expenses, this ceremony was envisioned as a solution. Since its inception, the popularity and participation have grown each year. Society has embraced this concept wholeheartedly, and the scale of the event continues to expand.
Sangamner’s “Malpani Pattern” has become aspirational for many families, known for its excellent organization. There are no restrictions of caste or religion—any legally eligible bride and groom may register. The ceremony caters to the needs of economically weaker sections, middle-class families, and even many well-established and educated individuals.
The event features a beautifully decorated mandap, accommodation for the couples, meal services, musical processions, garlands, essential household items as gifts, specially tailored wedding attire, traditional ornaments, holy chants by priests, and the sacred “Saptapadi” for Hindu couples. Marriages of other faiths are conducted by their respective religious leaders in line with their customs. Each couple can invite up to 100 guests, for whom food arrangements are made.
As a wedding gift, the Malpani Group presents each couple with household items worth approximately ₹25,000, including a steel cupboard, utensils, and racks. Around 15,000 to 20,000 people from all walks of life attend the ceremony to bless the couples. Ministers, MPs, MLAs, leaders from various political parties, and representatives of social organizations are also present. In an effort to promote environmental responsibility, each couple is gifted a plant to nurture. Special entertainment is arranged for the guests with live music, and selfie corners are set up with beautiful decorations. Parents’ suggestions are welcomed warmly.
There are about 25 organizing committees working on different aspects such as reception, inquiry, accommodation, stage setup, decoration, meals, lighting, water, cleanliness, gifts, interfaith ceremonies, processions, security, photography, media, seating, and felicitation. Employees and worker representatives of the Malpani Group manage this massive planning with dedication.
This unique ceremony starts at 10 AM with the arrival of guests and concludes at 5:30 PM when the brides are sent off to their new homes. Directors of the group—Rajesh, Dr. Sanjay, Manish, Girish, Ashish, Jay, Yash, and Harshvardhan Malpani—along with all the women of the Malpani family, work hands-on to ensure the success of the event.
This initiative, now in its 28th uninterrupted year, stands as a shining example of social commitment and continues to earn praise throughout the state.
