Shloka Translation
BG – Ch. 15- Ver. 9:

The embodied soul savours the objects of the senses by using the sense perceptions of the ears, eyes, skin, tongue, and nose, which are gathered around the mind.

Explanation

Though the soul is divine, It can appreciate taste, smell, touch, feel, and hear sounds with the help of the mind and senses. Even if the intellect and senses are lifeless, they come to life as a result of the soul’s consciousness. This allows them to feel pleasure and misery as a result of their ideas, situations, people, and sensory objects. Because of the ego, the embodied soul then identifies the same thought and sense experiences as its own.

God is the only source of pure happiness, which is both eternal and limitless, and which the uncontended soul is constantly seeking. Those who recognize that the mind and senses are the source of their enslavement, and that the only way to break free is to direct these sense instruments toward God, are on the path of devotion.

Verse & what we can learn

Ignorance puts an apparent limitation, also known as upaadhi, on the jeeva, giving him a sense of incompleteness. The jeeva asks the upaadhi’s assistance in removing its sense of completion. The upaadhi can exist in a variety of forms. Let’s have a look at these changes. The sense organs are variants of this upaadhi that can interact with various facets of Prakriti. The mind is a modified version of this upaadhi that can absorb input from the sense organs, compare it to its memory, and offer a whole image of what was contacted. The ego is another alteration that considers itself to be the “I,”

After its journey in one body is completed, the jeeva travels with its mind and senses, in quest of another physical body. The ego portion of the upadhi creates the thought “I am this body” when it links itself with a little physical body inside a womb based on the cravings it wishes to exhaust. It now uses the body to interact with the outside world.

To the ego, the jeeva surrenders its power of actuality, wisdom, and bliss. The ego takes on the role of world doer and experiencer. It must continually interact with the outside world in order to pursue satisfaction through sense items. It forgets that it was happy in the first place. It brings Prakriti’s domain, the three gunas, the visible and so-called physical world, to life.

To acquire knowledge and to implement that knowledge in life one needs to be mentally and physically active and healthy and for that daily meditation is a great tool.
