Shloka Translation
BG – Ch. 7- Ver. 9:

I am the earth’s sweet scent and the fire’s radiance. I am all beings’ life energy, as well as the austerity in the austere.

Explanation

In continuation of the previous verses, Shree Krishna asserts that He is the source of all things and the most important ingredient. His opulence extends throughout the entire cosmos. He is the driving force behind both the non-living and the living on Earth. He is the earth’s soft and pure scent, as well as the blazing light of a flame. He is the source of life for all living things. Ascetics, also known as sadhus, actively abstain from bodily pleasures and practise austerities in order to purify oneself. Lord Krishna claims that He is the driving factor behind their ability to penance.

There is no scent that compares to that which emanates from the earth following the first monsoon rain. You must experience it for yourself. Shri Krishna states that we should recognise Ishvara in the shape of that lovely scent whenever we smell it. Any fragrance is a product of nature, and any odour is a product of ignorance. Ishvara, according to Shri Krishna, is the heat or brilliance in all fires, including the sun and the stars.

Verse & what we can learn

Immobile objects are distinguished from plants, animals, and people by a life force or life principle. When we perceive an abundance of this life energy, our hearts rejoice. Shri Krishna claims that Ishvara is the life force or life principle that exists in all plants, animals, and humans. When we check the activity of our senses and our thinking, austerity is the energy that builds up in our bodies. We observe that anytime we overeat, drink too much alcohol, watch too much television, or party, we feel depleted of all energy. When we regulate our senses and our minds, on the other hand, we will notice a rise in our energy levels. Tapas is the name for this energy, according to Shri Krishna.

To acquire knowledge and to implement that knowledge in life one needs to be mentally and physically active and healthy and for that daily meditation is a great tool.

There are various types of meditation like Buddhist meditation, heartfulness meditation, mindfulness meditation, meditation for stress, and each meditation benefits are countless. There are also numerous meditation techniques for beginners which help in practicing daily meditation so go ahead and start your journey towards a peaceful and balanced life.

In the Next verse, Shri Krishna tells Arjuna more on the same topic that he is the essence of all.
