Shloka Translation
BG – Ch. 7- Ver. 1:
The Supreme Lord said: “Now listen, O Arjun, how you might know Me totally and without doubt by attaching your thoughts exclusively to Me and surrendering to Me through the practise of bhakti yog.”
Explanation
Shri Krishna desired us to meditate on him as Ishvara, as we saw in the previous chapter. But, for the most part, we have no idea who Ishvara is, what his position in the universe is, or how to contact him. They disclose Ishvara’s true nature as the universe’s creator and controller. And, just as we had to work hard to purify our minds in the previous six chapters, we will have to work even more to understand Ishvara. It is the endeavour of bhakti (devotion) to surrender to Ishvara.
Shri Krishna wants for us to comprehend his true essence, and he desires to show himself to us in such a way that we will gain a complete and thorough awareness of his true nature. When we begin to create a strong attachment to Ishvara’s genuine essence, we will become fixated on him. When we begin to establish an attachment to a higher ideal, the lower attachments to material things will simply drop. When one develops an affinity with Ishvara, there is no need for anything else to bring delight.
We shall discover that Ishvara is the only permanent support accessible when we grow devotion to him. We will begin to rely exclusively on him for assistance, rather than on any other source.
As a result, Shri Krishna advises Arjuna to pay attention to this message, as developing such a link to Ishvara is not simple for everyone. However, this is the only way we can understand fully Ishvara.
Verse & what we can learn
Shri Krishna begins the seventh chapter by delivering a strong message. He claims that he will reveal that which will allow us to understand fully Ishvara’s genuine essence without any reservations. This will require our being attached to him and seeking refuge in him.
