Shloka Translation
BG – Ch. 6- Ver. 45:

When these yogis engage in serious efforts to make further progress, they become purified from worldly wants and achieve perfection in this incarnation itself, due to the merits of many previous lifetimes.

Explanation

The spiritual advancement is enhanced by the accumulated practise of many previous lives in the form of sincere effort in this life, as they have done in previous lives. The phrase “striving harder than before” is used by Shree Krishna to express that their current endeavour is more intense than prior lifetimes when they were unable to complete the path. They can then take advantage of the momentum they’ve built up in the past and let it carry them to their destination.

Shri Krishna previously mentioned the unfulfilled meditator who, although being born into a prosperous household, is drawn to the spiritual path. Shri Krishna discusses what will happen to the person if he works hard. If he works hard enough, he can gain spiritual power throughout many lives, purify his sins, and eventually reach the ultimate condition of liberation.

Shri Krishna inspires Arjuna to persevere in his quest. Arjuna comes from one of the most privileged families of his period. However, he has the option of pursuing the spiritual path as a result of the knowledge he is receiving from Shri Krishna, but only if he adopts this teaching into his life.
