Shloka Translation
BG – Ch. 6- Ver. 36:
Yoga is tough to achieve if one’s mind is uncontrolled. Yoga can be perfected by individuals who have learned to manage their minds and who work honestly using suitable methods. This is my point of view.
Explanation
Shree Krishna now explains the connection between mind control and Yoga achievement. He claims that individuals who have not learned to control their thoughts through abhyasa and vairagya will have a tough time practising Yoga. Those who have succeeded in bringing the mind under their control through constant effort can do so by using the right tools. He has previously outlined the perfect procedure. It entails controlling the senses, letting up of all wants, focussing the mind solely on God, thinking of him with constancy, and perceiving everyone with equal vision.
Shri Krishna stressed the significance of focused effort and objectivity in mind control. To highlight this point, he claims that a person who is unable to regulate his mind will never be able to achieve the condition of meditator. He also tells Arjuna to spend a great deal of effort, but to do so skillfully and wisely. Note that he does not issue an order; instead, he states that this is his opinion, which you are free to accept or reject.
Let’s start with the idea of meditation with an uncontrolled mind. The wildness of the mind is created by armies of cravings residing in the mind, therefore practising meditation without first regulating the mind could be destructive. We may be aware of our conscious desires, but we are unaware of the wide range of desires that exist in our subconscious mind, or how powerful they are.
That is why Shri Krishna advises that we should approach our spiritual practise with caution. Spiritual practise necessitates that we adopt a “solution-oriented” or analytical mindset. It needs us to concentrate, pay attention, and be conscious of every desire that arises in our minds, much like a scientist would in a laboratory. Although giving up all material possessions may appear to be dispassion, it will not eliminate our latent needs. Shri Krishna responded to Arjuna’s concern about the difficulty of mind control with this response.
Verse & what we can learn
It is difficult to keep one’s thinking under control. However, you will eventually succeed if you use your present intellect to withdraw just a bit and back it up with persistent work. No success comes without work. Years of hard effort, continual striving, and failures go into every success tale. It is impossible to achieve instant success. The outcomes in the spiritual sphere are subtle and take time, but you may be sure of success in the end.
To acquire knowledge and to implement that knowledge in life one needs to be mentally and physically active and healthy and for that daily meditation is a great tool.
There are various types of meditation like Buddhist meditation, heartfulness meditation, mindfulness meditation, meditation for stress, and each meditation benefits are countless. There are also numerous meditation techniques for beginners which help in practicing daily meditation so go ahead and start your journey towards a peaceful and balanced life.
In the Next verses, Arjuna asks Shri Krishna another question.
