Shloka Translation
BG – Ch. 9- Ver. 4:
My unmanifest state pervades the entire universe. I am the foundation for all beings; they are not the foundation for me.
Explanation
There is only one God, who dwells in everyone’s heart and is present everywhere. God can be found all around the earth. The world is neither parim nor vivarta since God encompasses everything that has existed and will exist. It is made from God’s material energy, known as Maya shakti. The souls are also made up of God’s energy, but they are His higher energy, known as Jiva shakti. As a result, the globe and all of its inhabitants are both God’s energies and part of His personality. Shree Krishna, on the other hand, claims that He does not live in living beings, implying that the infinite cannot be contained by finite beings. This is due to the fact that He is considerably more than the sum of things.
The Supreme Personality of Godhead cannot be perceived with the five senses. He is revealed only to those who are engaged in sincere devotional worship under suitable guidance. If one has formed a transcendental loving attitude toward the Supreme Personality, he can see Him both within and outside himself at all times. As a result, He is not visible to the broader public. It is asserted here that, while being all-pervading and everywhere present, He is incomprehensible to the senses. But, even though we can’t see Him, He is the centre of everything.
All of the manifestations we perceive, as well as everything that exists in the material and spiritual worlds, are based on the Supreme Personality of Godhead’s energy. The dissemination of His various energies causes creation, and as stated in the Bhagavad-Gita, He is everywhere present through His personal representation, the diffusion of His various energies.
Verse & what we can learn
His unmanifest state pervades the entire universe, implying that all entities are founded in him, but he is not based in them. Every living and non-living being in the universe contains Ishvara. If that is the case, we do not need to exert any further effort. We will have constant access to Ishvara once we train ourselves to see him in everything. To achieve this, we will not need to engage in any additional physical or mental activity.
Divine is the basis of all beings. We may come to believe that Ishvara resides in an idol, a saint, or a sacred site; yet, these are just names and forms. Even Arjuna would find it difficult to accept that Shri Krishna, who stands in front of him, has the power to pervade the entire universe. As a result, according to Shri Krishna, no visible entity can ever contain Ishvara, who is beyond name and form. Ishvara’s true nature is formless.
To acquire knowledge and to implement that knowledge in life one needs to be mentally and physically active and healthy and for that daily meditation is a great tool.
There are various types of meditation like Buddhist meditation, heartfulness meditation, mindfulness meditation, meditation for stress, and each meditation benefits are countless. There are also numerous meditation techniques for beginners which help in practicing daily meditation so go ahead and start your journey towards a peaceful and balanced life.
We come across thousands of names and forms on a daily basis, which raises a question. Many of those names and forms belong to people with whom we engage, speak, work, and so on. Isn’t it true that such individuals are “real”?
What are our options for resolving this? In the next shloka, Shri Krishna clarifies the situation.
