Shloka Translation
BG – Ch. 8- Ver. 2:
O Madhosoodana, who is “adhiyagna” and how is he (established) in this body? At the time of departure, how is a self-controlling individual aware of (you)?
Explanation
This shloka finishes Arjuna’s round of questions to Shri Krishna. The following are his two inquiries. First and foremost, he wants to know what “adhiyagna” is and where it can be found. Second, he wants to know how a yogi or a self-controlled individual may recall Ishvara when he or she is about to go. Shri Krishna considers the second question to be the most significant. Shri Krishna devotes the balance of the chapter to answering this question alone, after answering the previous six questions in the next two shlokas.
Verse & what we can learn
Arjuna poses seven questions to Shree Krishna, six of which are concerning these words and the seventh question is about remembering God after death. Arjun wants Shree Krishna to elaborate on these topics because he mentioned them himself.
