Shloka Translation
BG – Ch. 11- Ver. 9:
Hari, the mighty Yogeshwara, then showed Paartha the greatest form of Ishvara after he had said thus, O King.
Explanation
Sanjaya now addresses him as “Maha-Yogeshwara,” using the superlative “great” in addition to the address “Lord of all yogis.” Sanjay’s Guru, Veda Vyasa, conferred upon him the gift of far-sighted vision. As a result, he glimpsed the Lord’s cosmic form in the same way as Arjuna did. Sanjaya narrates what Arjuna saw to Dhritarashtra in the next four verses. “Opulence” is the meaning of the word aishwarya. God’s cosmic shape is brimming with manifestations of his opulences, inspiring dread, wonder, and adoration in those who see it.
Verse & what we can learn
Shri Krishna and Arjuna were unable to continue narrating the Gita at this time because Shri Krishna was displaying his cosmic form and Arjuna was taking it all in. The Mahabharata’s author, the renowned sage Veda Vyaasa, chose to hand on the narration to Sanjaya, who was reporting the events to Dhritaraashtra, the “King” described in this shloka.
His adoration for Shri Krishna is one degree higher than Arjuna’s. For example, he calls Shri Krishna “Maha Yogeshwara,” whereas Arjuna calls him “Yogeshwara.” It’s because Sanjaya knew Shri Krishna better and more intimately than Arjuna. Furthermore, through Vyaasa, he had already been granted divine vision, allowing him to see exactly what Arjuna saw.
