10 Tips to Protect Kids from the Heat Wave While Travelling in summer

Summer is a season kids enjoy the most because, summer means vacation, travelling, holidays and fun. It is a period; we plan to take our children out during summer either on a holiday or to some of the relatives or friends place. But when children are exposed to heat during long hours of travelling, we need to take extra care, so that, their health is not affected because of increasing temperatures and change in diet and food intake. Here are some important tips you can follow to take care of the health of the children while traveling or when having a vacation out station.

  1. In case you are eating out, check if the place is hygienic. Also ensure, if the food is stored and served in a hygienic way.
  2. It is always best to use filtered and purified water.
  3. Avoid street food, as it leads to stomach infections. Food that is stored in unhygienic way is usually exposed to dust and pollution. Also, food cooked long hours back and reheated and served, is not good for health especially for kids. So as far as possible, prefer eating in a hygienic and clean place.
  4. We see people enjoy eating open and cut fruits and salads on the road side which is not healthy.  Avoid buying such food for the children, as they may be stale and may cause stomach infections or food poisoning.
  5. Replace cool drinks with fresh coconut water or buttermilk while travelling or otherwise.
  6. Make sure that children drink lot of fluids, else they may get dehydrated.
  7. Don’t be under the impression that any bottled or packaged water is safe to drink. Today, we find lot of companies selling mineral water, but there have been cases where people have fallen sick drinking such water. So when buying water ensure you choose the right brand.
  8. It is always advisable to carry some oral dehydration powder or glucose powder, so that, in case of dehydration, you may use it instantly anywhere.
  9. Also carry some quantity of sugar and salt, so that it can be given to children with water in case of diarrhea.
  10.  When packing clothes for children prefer cotton clothes, clothes that are comfortable and light colored ones. Also take a cap preferably white one and sunglasses for children to avoid the effect of harmful UV rays.  But, if you are planning to go on a vacation to a hill station or some cold place, choose the clothing accordingly.
