Shloka Translation
BG – Ch. 3- Ver. 36:

Why, O descendent of Vrishni (Krishna), is a person compelled to do sinful activities, even if reluctantly, as if by force?

Explanation

We intuitively know that some actions are wrong, but we nonetheless perform them, as if compelled by some powerful force. Arjun is curious as to what that powerful force is.

Arjuna poses a question that almost everyone finds perplexing. You know what you should do, yet something inside you seems to be forcing you to do exactly what you don’t want to do. As a result, you suffer and become agitated. Arjuna wants to know what’s causing the problem so he can solve it.

It is sinful conduct for you if your conscience revolts against an act and creates mental turmoil. It is not a sin if it does not affect you. God is the seat of virtue, and being his fragments, we all have a natural affinity to morality and goodness. The voice of conscience arises from the goodness that is inherent in the soul.
